GROWTH
Phenology maps growth as a sequence.
Using the BBCH scale, an internationally recognised system for classifying visible plant development, this work follows a cherry tree from root to fruit.
Within Harvest, it holds time as structure. Growth made measurable. Time made visible.

WITH PAYNES ORCHARDS — KIM PAYNE

Phenology illustrates plant development through the BBCH scale, an internationally recognised system used to classify visible stages of plant growth.
It provides a standardised framework for tracking progression across species, season, and time.
The work is structured across four vertical panels, moving from root to fruit.
The first panel represents the root system. It sits outside the BBCH scale but supports all stages of growth.
The remaining panels follow key phases:
Leaves (BBCH 10–39), from bud break to canopy formation.
Blossom (BBCH 40–69), from development to flowering.
Fruit (BBCH 70–89), from set to ripening.
Within Harvest, Phenology frames growth as an ordered system, where seasonal time is stabilised and biological rhythm is translated into structure.
