Gingko Metal Panel

The ginkgo tree is one of the oldest living species on Earth, often called a “living fossil.” It has survived for over 200 million years, carrying with it a symbolism of endurance, longevity, and quiet resilience. The fan-shaped ginkgo leaf has always fascinated me for its simple yet intricate form, the way it flares outward like a hand in motion.

For years I have been drawn to this motif in my work. The ginkgo leaf feels like an anchor of balance and flow, something timeless and elegant that connects to both natural and ornamental languages.

With the Ginkgo Woman Panel, I wanted to merge this motif with the figure of the feminine as an emblem of movement, freedom, and power. She breaks out of the rigid rectangle that frames her, throwing her head back, limbs extended, her entire body caught in a gesture of release. Around her, ginkgo leaves spiral and cascade, creating a sense of rhythm that feels both architectural and alive.

The composition is deliberate. The rectangle represents containment, structure, the box we are often placed within. The woman’s movement is the refusal of that box, a declaration of freedom through ornament and flow. The leaves amplify that release, their fan-like forms echoing the lines of her body, creating harmony between human and nature.

This panel is not only about ornament but about expression. It captures the VANTA language at its core: bold linework that transforms stillness into motion, permanence into flow. It is both botanical and human, ornamental and emotional, decorative and declarative.
